What began as a Saturday morning tradition during my childhood, “D3: Dads, Daughters and Donuts,” eventually transitioned into drinks with dad when I grew up. These days, about once a week, I meet Jim — Jimbo, Pops, Faja — for happy hour. We’re always trying new drink deals around town, so I figured why not share the wealth? — Becca Wright, associate editor

The Deal
Hughie’s has a drink special each night of the week: Monday is half price glasses of wine (5 to 10 pm); Tuesday is $3 Texas beers (5 to 10 pm); Wednesday is $2 for a select draft beer (5 to 10 pm); Thursday is half off bottles of wine (5 to 10 pm); and Friday and Saturday is reverse happy hour, $3 on most draft beers (9 to 12 pm).

Comments
Hughie’s has procured a spot on my weekly restaurant list. They have a nice selection of draft beer, and I cannot get enough of their lemongrass chicken bánh mì ($5, photo above). The aromatic lemongrass is overwhelming in the most flavorful way, and the sandwich is plenty moist. My dad also loves Vietnamese food — especially chả giò (Vietnemese fried egg rolls) — so I took him to Hughie’s this week for $3 Texas beers. Hughie’s egg rolls ($6, photo below) passed his series of grueling tests: Are they fried? Are they delicious? Can I dunk them in nước mắm (fish sauce)? Well done, Hughie’s. We’ll see you next week.
