About My Table Magazine

My Table, Houston’s dining magazine published by Lazywood Press, is a different kind of print publication – personal, quirky and specialized – and for more than 23 years, we were Houston’s only paid-subscription magazine focusing on all things culinary. Our readers are foodies and depend on us for accurate, objective information about the local food-and-drink world. Each print issue offered readers news on the restaurants, chefs, shops, bars, foods, nightlife, trends and personalities that make up Houston’s lively culinary scene. We also included travel in our editorial mix as a way to explore how cuisine from all over the world has shaped the dining diversity of Houston.

Since 2004 our website my-table.com has delivered robust bites of Houston restaurant news between print editions of My Table magazine with the delivery of our weekly email, SideDish. Now, in 2017, online readership is more diversified – our readers want everything they would get in their print subscription, plus immediate first looks at newly opened restaurants and bars, guides to seasonal cooking, interviews, tongue-in-cheek features on the current culinary trends, cocktail recipes and to explore a culture’s culinary history they’re not familiar with – all from their computers and smartphones. My Table is now a digital magazine, no subscription required. The quality content we’ve delivered in print since 1994 is now available to anyone on the web. Hungry Houstonians and visiting guests rely on our Culinary Calendar to keep them in-the-know of upcoming events and to get the first scoop on special promotions and ticket sales to festivals and galas. SideDish, our digital newsletter, is emailed weekly with a roster of our stories for the week, plus upcoming events set for the weekend.

About My Table Projects, Awards & Sponsorships

At My Table magazine, we aspire to honor individual excellence via The Houston Culinary Awards, our annual awards for culinary distinction. Founded in 1997, these awards — they include Restaurateur of the Year, Chef of the Year, Best New Restaurant and 20 more — are presented annually on the first Sunday in October. The online voting is city wide, and the gala dinner is always sold out. To learn more, visit houstonculinaryawards.com.

In 2010, My Table founded the My Table Magazine Endowment at the Hilton College of Hotel & Restaurant Management to provide scholarship money to undergraduates. Funds to launch the endowment were raised via a golf tournament (“Links, Greens & Fried Eggs”) that we co-hosted with the Hilton College at the University of Houston.

In 2016, the magazine partnered with the Houston Center of Photography to launch Feast Your Eyes ~ Food Photography from Across Texas. The winning photos had a six-week exhibition at Phoenicia Specialty Foods’ MKT BAR downtown and were published in a special edition of My Table magazine.

In 2001, we joined with the Houston Food & Beverage Managers Association to co-sponsor the annual Caesar Salad Competition, which continues to be one of the most entertaining (and hotly contested) food fights in Houston. The proceeds benefit culinary scholarships throughout the city. In 2014 we became the media sponsor for the Iron Somm competition, which supports The Periwinkle Foundation.

Just for fun, we introduced the Haiku-Sine (a wordplay on “haute cuisine”) contest in which readers were invited to submit food-themed 17-syllable haiku. The best of the first three years of Haiku-Sine was collected in our scrumptious little book, Haiku-Sine: 217 Tiny Poems by Texans Who Love to Eat & Feed Their Heads (Lazywood Press, 2000).

In 1998, My Table introduced Off The Eaten Path — A Series of Culinary Excursions. These culinary trips have included New Orleans, Rome and the Amalfi Coast, and Puebla, Mexico, with chef Hugo Ortega as guide. Our trips always include cooking classes, tastings and private tours. A new culinary excursion is currently being planned for My Table readers for 2016.

Finally, My Table has organized countless themed dinners and special events. Our open-to-the-public tastings and seminars have included tastings of tequila, Kentucky bourbon, Burgundy wines, Armagnac and other spirits. We have sponsored a hog-butchering class and a tamale-making class. One year we co-sponsored a recipe contest with Mathilde Liqueur – and the winner got a trip to Cognac, France.

Looking for a partner for a food-themed event? My Table knows food and understands Houston.
