Two worlds are about to collide in Houston’s entertainment scene. Theater and cuisine have teamed up to provide two delicious and intimate dinners hosted by Stages Repertory Theatre and Cordúa Restaurants. The events will take place at Américas River Oaks on Tuesday, February 28, and Tuesday, March 28, to celebrate Stages Repertory Theatre’s two spring productions that involve the culinary world.
My Mañana Comes (currently playing through March 5), written by Elizabeth Irwin and directed by Leslie Swackhamer, tells the tale of two immigrants and two U.S. natives who work as busboys in a five-star Manhattan restaurant and also try to scrounge up a living. When a new manager comes on the scene and threatens their progress, each man faces a conflict between supporting his friends and securing his own dream.
Five Course Love (March 8 through April 16) narrates five romantic dates in five different restaurants. It is filled with humor, clever lyrics and tunes to poke a little fun at various cultural traditions and musical styles.
Each dinner will offer a sneak peek of the play to be featured at that particular event. The February 28 dinner will also include a Q&A discussion between David Cordúa and Cordúa Restaurants CEO Fred Espinosa, a Latin American immigrant whose own story of the American Dream aligns with themes in My Mañana Comes.
David Cordúa has prepared a five-course menu for the dinner on February 28, complete with wine pairings. The March 28 dinner will feature a menu crafted by several Houston chefs with a panel discussion among those chefs.
Tickets are $85 per person (dinner only) or $100 per person (dinner plus show), tax and gratuity not included.
Stages Repertory Theatre and David Cordúa have also partnered for “Dinner & A Show Packages” that include a ticket to either show along with a choice of a three- or four-course meal at Américas River Oaks at 2040 W. Gray. Purchase tickets through the Stages Box Office boxoffice@stagestheatre.com or by calling 713-527-0123.
Performance times for both shows are Wednesdays and Thursdays at 7:30 pm, Fridays 8 pm, Saturdays 2:30 pm and 8 pm and Sundays 2:30 pm.
