Dads, Daughters + Drinks: Américas

What began as a Saturday morning tradition during my childhood, “D3: Dads, Daughters and Donuts,” eventually transitioned into drinks with dad when I grew up. These days, about once a week, I meet Jim — Jimbo, Pops, Faja — for happy hour. We’re always trying new drink deals around town, so I figured why not share the wealth? — Becca Wright, associate editor

The Deal
Américas’ “social hour” is Monday through Saturday, 4 to 7 pm in the bar, lounge and patio. Everything on the menu — excluding the $2.95 beer — is $6.95. That includes four wines by the glass, five cocktails and 13 small plates.

Comments
Every time I go for social hour here, I get a glass of the Marqués de Cáceres Rosé and start with the ceviche mixto (blue tilapia, Gulf shrimp, crispy calamari, avocado, red onion, cilantro, jalapeño). By now we’ve tried most everything on the social hour menu — the empanadas (photo below), fish taco, carnitas taco, sandwich cubano and churrasquito (small portion chimichurri grilled beef filet, béarnaise, pickled onion and yuca fries) are all noteworthy choices. And even though it’s not on the social hour menu, we always give in to ordering a slice of tres leches cake to end the meal.

One complaint? We wish the mini tacos came two per order instead of one.
