The Bitter Hour – Zimm’s answer for hospitality pros and their fondness for putting a sardonic spin on happy hour – is a monthly themed event featuring tongue-in-cheek cocktails co-created by “startenders” of other local bars. The Sunday, May 1, event features guest bartender Elaine Collum of in-the-works Arthur Ave and Zimm’s/Pax Americana bar director Judith Piotrowski, who together have designed six cocktails in memory of Prince.
Proceeds from Sunday’s event will go to Girls Rock Camp Houston, a Houston organization that does exactly what it sounds like – it helps young women in Houston learn to really rock out and “is dedicated to empowering girls and women of all backgrounds and abilities through musical education and creative expression.”
We think Prince would approve.
From 5 to 9 pm, everyone of legal drinking age is invited to attend the Bitter Hour and jam out to DJ Sammy Ford (Houston’s most Prince-enthusiastic DJ/attorney) and choose the specialty drinks that stir up the most funk within.
Yesterday, My Table was invited to sip on three samples from Sunday’s menu. Drinks such as Purple Rain, a punch called Little Nikki, gold-flaked Dearly Beloved, Dove Tears and Little Red Corvette made the list. Yes, there is a The-Artist-Formerly-Known-As-Prince symbol stenciled on the Pussy Control, and a Prince favorite dish will be served at last call. (Can you guess what it might be?) Pax Americana will provide food, which includes purple pastries.
