In the current December-January issue of My Table magazine, writer Phaedra Cook offers readers a list of fresh gift finds for Houston foodies – newly released regional cookbooks, gifts to amp up the liquor cabinet, cool tools for the home cook and treats for seasonal snacking. And the list doesn’t stop there. Cook also reached out to Tyler Horne, the director of Urban Harvest farmers’ markets, and asked for some gift suggestions that can be picked up at the Eastside market.
Print out Horne’s list below and head to the Saturday market (there are just two markets left before Christmas), which is open 8 am until noon at 3000 Richmond behind the office building.
1) Guudbelly tamales – “Yes, these are vegan, but I hesitate to say that to people because they really are so good, and their hot sauces are incredible. Can be ordered by the dozen.”
2) Blue Heron Farm goat calendar – “I mean, really does it get any cuter? They also have cajeta that is shelf stable and addictive.”
3) Tavola Pasta – “Beautiful packaging and made with certified organic grain. Would be nice with a bottle of local Texas Hill Country Olive Oil.”
4) Eat My Pralines – “Great pralines that give Brennan’s a run for their money.”
5) “Lavande has beautiful products that would be great stocking stuffers – made with lavender from their farm in Chappel Hill.”
