What began as a Saturday morning tradition during my childhood, “D3: Dads, Daughters and Donuts,” eventually transitioned into drinks with dad when I grew up. These days, about once a week, I meet Jim — Jimbo, Pops, Faja — for happy hour. We like to try new drink deals around town, so I figured why not share the wealth? — Becca Wright, associate editor

Comments
There are seven small plates on the menu, and we tried five. Our top picks: tangy, smoked pimiento cheese dip ($7, photo above); the awfully cute pork sliders ($5) with barbecue sauce, red onions and pickles; and the crab-stuffed fried jalapeños, which the kitchen staff de-seeds and soaks in water so the level of heat is very tolerable ($8, photo below). The goat cheese-stuffed dates wrapped in bacon and dipped in garlic mojo ($2) are also a fun one-biter. You will probably want to order more than just one. With dad-daughter duo Megan (owner) and Doyle Adams behind the bar, Big Eyed Fish will likely become one of our regular D3 destinations.
