This Wednesday, May 7, Robert Del Grande and Dean Fearing will come together for two book signings of Fearing’s new cookbook, The Texas Food Bible: From Legendary Dishes to New Classics. Del Grande has a featured recipe in the book for grilled rib eye steaks with a backyard steak sauce. From 1 to 3 pm, catch the duo at Neiman Marcus in The Galleria, and then starting at 7 pm they will sign books at Brazos Bookstore.


In conjunction with Three Brothers Bakery’s 65th anniversary, the City of Houston has proclaimed this Thursday, May 8, Three Brothers Bakery Day. Swing by the bakery’s Braeswood location at 10 am and celebrate with birthday candles and sweet treats.


This Saturday, May 10, the National Association of Letter Carriers will coordinate its 22nd Annual “Stamp Out Hunger” food drive, and you don’t even have to leave your home to participate. Place nonperishable food items such as canned meat, tuna, peanut butter, soup, rice and beans, etc. by your mailbox this Saturday, and roughly 3,800 letter carriers of the NALC Houston chapter will collect the donations all across the city. Donations will be given to the Houston Food Bank and its partner food pantries.


For all of you chocolate lovers, buy tickets to Kris Bistro & Wine Lounge’s Guest Chef Dinner Series on Thursday, May 15, and enjoy a five-course chocolate-themed dinner prepared by chef Philippe Schmit. The dinner line-up will include a corn tamale with dark chocolate molé, seared scallop in cacao butter and a roasted whole quail with a chocolate hazelnut grand veneur sauce. The reception begins 6:30 pm, and tickets are $110 per person (not including beverages, tax and gratuity). Wine pairings are available for an additional $40. The Art Institute of Houston will host a Culinary Tasting on Saturday, May 17, to benefit the James Beard Foundation’s “Friends” Scholarship Program, which helps raise scholarship funds for aspiring culinary students.

The evening will feature dishes from some of Houston’s most notable chefs, including Chris Shepherd of Underbelly, Randy Evans of Haven, Charles Clark of Ibiza, Garth Blackburn of Sub Zero/Wolf and Mark Holley of Holley’s as well as The Art Institute of Houston’s culinary faculty and students. Each dish will also be paired with a wine provided by Ambiente Wine.

The first tasting will begin at 6 pm and the second will follow at 7:30 pm. Tickets are $125 for the general public, but they can be purchased at a discount until May 12. To reserve a seat at one of the tastings, click here.


On Tuesday, May 20, Sonoma in The Heights will host a wine dinner featuring a four-course meal paired with seven single-vineyard, low-production wines from Tyler Wines and Lieu Dit Wines. The evening’s reception will begin at 6 pm, and you’ll have a chance to learn about (and taste) Tyler Wines & Lieu Dit Wines. Dinner begins at 6:45 pm and lasts until about 8:30 pm. From Sunday, May 25, through Saturday, May 31, Ra Sushi will host its 10th Annual “Nicky’s Week” to help support and raise funds for children battling cancer and other deadly diseases. Throughout the week, both the Highland Village and CityCentre location will donate 100 percent of their sales from a variety of menu items to St. Jude Children’s Research Hospital. These menu items include edamame, tootsy maki, shrimp nigiri, pork gyoza, chicken yakitori and garlic citrus yellowtail as well as a selection of cocktails and non-alcoholic beverages.
