So much wine, so little time:

On Tuesday, April 5, chefs Manabu “Hori” Horiuchi and Seth Siegel-Gardner of Soma Sushi and Kata Robata kick off Azuma Group’s new dinner series, “Sushi of all Seasons” at Soma Sushi (4829 Washington). This is no three-roll sushi dinner. The chefs will be serving 10 courses during the evening, each paired with wine. The seating for this event is extremely limited,  the cost is $125 per person. My Table will host an Italian wine pairing class at Vinoteca Quattro on Saturday, April 9. The class specifically focuses on wines from different regions in Italy, and sommelier Kate Bourne is teaming with Quattro chef Maurizio Ferrarese — who will be preparing generous samples of iconic dishes from each region covered — to bring Italy to you. The Iron Sommelier is back for a third round: On Tuesday, April 12, at 6 pm,  14 Houston-area sommeliers will pour their hearts out to compete for best “theme” from wines they bring to the competition. Each sommelier gets to bring a portfolio of three wines, with the winner selected by the judges and a people’s choice award chosen by the votes of attendees. Yes, you will be able to try all 42 wines, and chat with the talent about their selected themes while eating hearty hors d’oeuvres. Many of the competing talent are some of Houston’s best-known sommeliers, including  Bryan Davis of HavenPeter Garcia of El MesonSarée Mulhern of Republic National Distributing (and formerly of Mark’s), Cathy Nguyen of Mark’s and Ben Roberts of Masraff’s, and they are all competing against title-holding Sean Beck of Hugo’s and Backstreet Cafe. This year the event will be held at Houston Country Club and as always benefits the Periwinkle Foundation. Cruise down to Galveston (Hotel Galvez, specifically) on Friday, April 15, and experience a Spanish wine dinner with Pedro Angel Garcia of El Meson in Rice Village. The eight-course meal will be paired with five wines (red, white and sparkling). A classical Spanish guitarist will play, and cultural items will be on display courtesy of the Spanish consul general.
